Crypto Exchange Deadlines in August: What Still Applies Now the Seven Cut-Off Dates to August 31 Have Passed
Recap as of September 27, 2026: between August 17 and August 31, 2026, deadlines expired at seven providers that affected investors in Germany. We had recorded the dates ourselves on August 16. Only the withdrawal of the six tokens delisted by Binance remains open, possible until October 17, 2026 at 03:00 UTC.

Between August 17 and August 31, 2026, seven providers close deadlines that directly affect investors in Germany. The dates come from entirely different corners: a delisting, an EU sanctions decision, two wind-downs, a market exit, a forced conversion and an announced liquidation. All they share is the time frame. Anyone holding accounts at several platforms has to check in several places at once over the next two weeks.
What has been missing so far is the consolidated view: which dates run in parallel, which one bites first, and what step each provider demands. cryptoticker.io compiled this survey itself on August 16, 2026.
Crypto exchange deadlines in August 2026: how this overview was compiled
The basis is the public announcement, help and status pages of the providers concerned. On August 16, 2026, twelve such addresses from eight platforms were retrieved and the deadlines named there were recorded. Four pages could be read in full, among them the wind-down notice from BitMEX and the delisting overview from Kraken. Four further addresses, namely the help pages of BitMart, Luno and Revolut as well as the announcement list from Binance, answer automated requests with a block. In a browser they are reachable as normal; their contents were cross-checked through search and through independent trade media.
Only the date, the time and the required step were recorded. The survey contains no user numbers and no estimates of how many accounts in Germany are affected, because there is no reliable basis for that.
Binance delisting on August 17: six tokens lose their trading pairs
Binance goes first. On August 17, 2026 at 03:00 UTC the exchange removes Across Protocol (ACX), Hashflow (HFT), PIVX, Vulcan Forged (PYR), Vanar (VANRY) and Viction (VIC) from spot trading. All trading pairs for these six assets disappear, and open orders are cancelled automatically.
Deposits of these tokens will no longer be credited after August 18, 2026 at 03:00 UTC. Withdrawals, by contrast, remain possible until October 17, 2026 at 03:00 UTC. From August 17 there is nothing left to trade, but moving a holding to your own wallet stays open for another two months.
HTX and the EU transaction ban from August 23: what the 21st sanctions package orders
The second date has a legal rather than a commercial origin. The Council of the European Union adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia on July 23, 2026; the measures entered into force with publication in the Official Journal. That package lists the trading platform HTX, legally registered as Huobi Global SA, among eighteen named crypto and payment service providers. The EU justifies the inclusion by saying these providers contributed to circumventing the financial restrictions imposed on Russia.
What matters for investors is the type of measure. This is a transaction ban and not a full freeze of assets. From August 23, 2026, people and companies in the EU may not do business with HTX, either directly or indirectly. The European Commission's press release on the package is publicly available.
Anyone pulling holdings off a platform needs a destination that can take them. Trading venues with an EU licence are listed in the comparison of regulated crypto exchanges.

BitMEX in reduce-only mode from August 26: positions can only be closed
BitMEX announced the wind-down of its own trading operation on July 23, 2026. Two points in time appear verbatim in the operator's notice. From August 26, 2026 at 04:00:00 UTC, risk limits take effect that prevent the opening of new positions; all that remains possible is reducing existing ones. The actual closure of the exchange, called Closure Time in the notice, falls on September 23, 2026 at 04:00:00 UTC.
From August 26 the only remaining action is working your way out of the market while every other participant tries to do the same. The wind-down plan is on the operator's blog.
Regulated crypto exchanges comparedBitMart on August 26: withdrawal requests must be filed before 05:00 UTC
Three days after BitMEX, BitMart announced the orderly wind-down of its own operation on July 26, 2026. In its notice the provider recommends completing identity verification and closing all positions before August 26, 2026 at 01:00 UTC. Withdrawal requests should be submitted before August 26, 2026 at 05:00 UTC. The platform itself will not be switched off for good until January 31, 2027, according to the company.
It is precisely that five-month span that misleads. The August date is the one that counts. Anyone arriving later ends up, on the provider's own account, in a separate procedure with its own evidence requirements; how long that takes and what conditions apply there, BitMart has not published. On top of that, withdrawals do not run through automatically: requests can be reviewed manually, for instance against identity data, recipient addresses and sanctions lists.
Kraken delisting on August 27: 21 tokens and the liquidation in early September
At Kraken the deadline expires one day later, on August 27, 2026 at 14:00 UTC. Twenty-one assets are affected: AURA, BIT, BOND, BSX, FARM, GARI, K, KET, KINTO, LOBO, MOON, MV, NYM, RAIIN, RHEA, SAROS, SDN, SPC, SPICE, TEA and TEER. The exchange already stopped trading and deposits for these assets on May 29, 2026.
What sets this case apart from an ordinary delisting is the step that follows. Once the deadline passes, withdrawals close permanently, and remaining holdings will be liquidated between September 1 and September 5, 2026 according to the exchange, depending on the market liquidity available at that point. Neither a particular execution price nor a particular trading venue is promised. For assets with thin order books the proceeds can therefore fall well short of the last quoted price.
Luno by August 31: selling, payout and the fees from September
Deposits and purchases were switched off on June 1, 2026, and sending crypto to external wallets ended on June 29, 2026. What remained was selling on the platform followed by a payout to a bank account, and that route closes on August 31, 2026. From September 1, affected accounts are closed.
After that, leaving the money there gets expensive. From September, according to the published information, a monthly inactivity fee of $2 applies, and from December a dormancy fee of $50 is added, so up to $52 a month in total. Anyone who misses the deadline and holds more than the minimum of roughly $10 in the account has to contact support and request a manual payout.
One limitation belongs with this: Luno has not publicly named which regions exactly are affected or how many customers received the notice. Anyone with an account should therefore not wait for a country list but check inside the account itself. The background to the withdrawal is the end of the MiCA transition period on July 1, 2026. Anyone wanting to turn a holding into euros ahead of a deadline like this will find the routes in the guide selling Bitcoin.

Revolut drops USDT on August 31: forced conversion rather than delisting
The Tether (USDT) deadline at Revolut ends on the same day. The provider does not simply remove the token from its offering but converts remaining holdings automatically into the account currency on August 31, 2026 at 12:00 GMT, at the market rate applying then. Neither the timing nor the rate can be influenced.
This process is staggered too: purchases of USDT were discontinued on July 6, 2026, and deposits have been rejected since July 30, 2026. Selling and moving to an external wallet remain possible until August 31. The trigger is that Tether has not applied for authorisation under the EU's MiCA regulation. The practical difference from an ordinary delisting matters for tax, because a forced conversion into euros works like a sale.
Crypto tax tools and portfolio trackers comparedWhy seven deadlines cluster in two weeks: MiCA, sanctions and market exits
The pile-up has no single cause. Three developments run in parallel and meet in the same stretch of the calendar.
First, the end of the MiCA transition period on July 1, 2026. Since then, anyone offering crypto services in the European Economic Area needs an authorisation. Providers without one are withdrawing, and the wind-down periods they set typically end after two months. The Luno case and the USDT removal at Revolut belong in this group.
Second, the commercial pressure on mid-sized trading venues. BitMEX and BitMart announced their wind-downs within three days of each other in July, both without reference to a supervisory procedure and both citing their own business situation. Here too, roughly a month lies between announcement and the end of trading.
Third, the sanctions layer. The HTX case follows a foreign policy decision and would have carried the same date without MiCA.
What follows from this for checking your own accounts
The causes create different obligations. A delisting concerns individual tokens, a market exit the entire account, a transaction ban every interaction with the platform. Anyone searching only for the word delisting will miss the other cases.
Tax consequences of a forced sale and a forced conversion: what the one-year rule means
A forced sale is a sale for tax purposes. Whether an exchange liquidates a position, a holding is converted into euros automatically, or you sell it yourself changes nothing about the classification. Under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act, the gain from a disposal remains tax-free if more than one year lies between acquisition and disposal; below that, taxation applies within the framework of private disposal transactions.
In practice that means: anyone holding an asset that reaches the one-year mark only in a few weeks' time should know, ahead of a forced liquidation, that the decision is being taken out of their hands. Moving a holding to your own wallet in good time is not a sale and therefore does not trigger a taxable event. The specific individual case belongs in the hands of a tax adviser.
Limits of this survey: what could not be checked
Four of the twelve addresses, among them the announcement pages of BitMart, Luno and Revolut, could not be read directly. Their details come from reporting by established trade media and from search, not from a direct retrieval of the provider's own page. Whether individual providers additionally or differently informed their customers in Germany by email cannot be established from outside.
It also remains open whether further deadlines have been added since August 16. This overview is a snapshot of that day and not a continuously maintained list. Providers that matter to investors in Germany were included, not every platform operating worldwide. What generally needs doing when an exchange closes is set out in the guide Crypto exchange shutting down: what to do.
Checking crypto deadlines: what to take away
- Look into every account, not just the largest one. All seven dates fall between August 17 and August 31, and they concern different things: individual tokens at Binance and Kraken, the whole account at Luno, BitMEX and BitMart, every transaction at HTX. An account left untouched for months is the most likely case. Where a holding can go next is shown in the comparison of regulated crypto exchanges.
- Separate the trading deadline from the withdrawal deadline. At Binance trading ends on August 17, the withdrawal only on October 17. At Kraken, withdrawals close with the same deadline that ends trading. If you want to go into euros, the routes are in the guide selling Bitcoin.
- Secure your records before the platform shuts down. Trading history, deposits and withdrawals and fee statements are hard to obtain once the platform is off, yet they are needed for the tax return. Which programs read them in is shown in the comparison of crypto tax tools and portfolio trackers.
