Kraken Liquidates Rain (RAIN): What Holders Should Know Now the September 15 Withdrawal Deadline Has Passed
Recap as of September 27, 2026: Kraken had announced it would switch off withdrawals for Rain (RAIN) on September 15, 2026 at 14:00 UTC and then sell any remaining balances itself. This article describes the situation before the deadline and our own measurement of the trading venues, which shows how narrow the alternative route was.

Kraken's Rain (RAIN) Delisting: The Three Dates That Matter
Anyone holding Rain (RAIN) in a Kraken account has until 15 September 2026 at 14:00 UTC to move the balance out. That is 16:00 German summer time. After that the exchange switches withdrawals off and sells the remaining balances itself between 15 and 25 September. Twenty-eight days separate the publication of this piece from that cut-off.
Trading itself ended long ago. Kraken switched off deposits and trading for RAIN on 17 June 2026 at 14:00 UTC. Since then the token can be neither bought nor sold on the exchange. Exactly one action remains: withdrawal to an address outside Kraken. That is the window closing in September.
| Date (UTC) | What happens | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 3 June 2026, 16:18 | Kraken publishes the delisting notice for RAIN | done |
| 17 June 2026, 14:00 | Deposits and trading are switched off | done |
| 15 September 2026, 14:00 | Withdrawals are switched off | open, 28 days |
| 15 to 25 September 2026 | Kraken liquidates remaining balances | open |
In the same notice the exchange spells out what those affected should expect. Liquidation prices may sit, in its own words, "significantly below recent reference prices" and in some cases deliver "minimal or no proceeds", because there will not be enough liquidity in the market at the time of execution. The firm carrying out the sale is the one saying this, and it can be read in the delisting notice for Rain (RAIN).
Why RAIN Does Not Appear in Our Count of 56 Kraken Tokens
On 14 August we counted the exchange's three running monthly cycles in Kraken Delisting: 56 Tokens Facing Forced Liquidation. Anyone who read that piece and did not find their token in it might feel safe. For RAIN that would be an expensive mistake.
RAIN sits in none of those cycles. Kraken handles it under a separate individual notice, apart from the collected monthly lists, and its cut-off date is a different one. The May cycle ran out on 27 August, the June cycle runs until 25 September, the July cycle until 6 November. The 15th of September belongs to none of them. A full-text check of our own article from 14 August returns zero hits for the string "RAIN" and zero for "15 September".
The second difference matters more. The monthly cycles largely concern assets with thin or dormant markets. RAIN is not one of them. According to our measurement of 17 August 2026, the token ranks 13th among the largest crypto assets by market capitalisation.
What Forced Liquidation Actually Means in a Delisting
The term sounds like insolvency law but means something simpler here, and something more uncomfortable for those affected: the exchange sells the remaining balance at its own discretion and credits the proceeds. The holder determines neither the timing nor the price nor the venue. They learn the result once it has been settled.
Three things therefore sit outside your own control. The execution time falls somewhere inside an eleven-day window. The execution size is the entire RAIN balance held on Kraken across all customers still there on that date, so potentially a quantity no single holder would place in the market. And the exchange decides the counter-currency. Withdraw yourself and you keep all three decisions.
Kraken explicitly concedes in the notice that proceeds may turn out minimal or fail to materialise altogether. That wording is not boilerplate. It is precisely how the exchange justifies granting a three-month withdrawal period at all instead of selling immediately.

Rank 13 and Still Thin: What Our Measurement of the Venues Found
To gauge what a forced sale in September would have to absorb, we retrieved and analysed the public market data on RAIN ourselves on 17 August 2026 between 21:51 and 21:52 UTC. cryptoticker.io collected this analysis itself on 17 August 2026. It rests on two calls to the public CoinGecko programming interface, both with HTTP status 200: the asset's master data and the full list of its trading pairs. Fourteen trading pairs across 12 venues were examined.
| Metric | Value on 17 August 2026 |
|---|---|
| Price | $0.01312922 |
| Market capitalisation | $9,410,591,679 |
| Rank by market capitalisation | 13 |
| Fully diluted valuation | $15,100,279,892 |
| Circulating supply | 716,584,200,087 RAIN |
| Total supply / maximum | 1,149,834,394,826 / 1,150,000,000,000 RAIN |
| Trading volume, 24 hours | $30,902,836 |
| All-time high | $0.01655801 on 29 June 2026 |
The decisive number only emerges from the ratio. Daily turnover of roughly $30.9 million stands against a market capitalisation of roughly $9.41 billion. That is 0.33 percent. For a sense of scale: among the large established crypto assets this ratio is regularly several times higher. An asset ranked 13th with turnover equal to a third of a percent of its valuation is exactly the constellation in which Kraken's wording about insufficient liquidity deserves to be taken seriously.
How the Volume Splits Across the Venues
The distribution is uneven, and for the question of where to go instead it matters more than the total.
| Venue | Volume over 24 hours in USD | Share |
|---|---|---|
| HTX | 8,265,068 | 26.7 percent |
| BloFin | 6,628,195 | 21.4 percent |
| BingX | 6,125,515 | 19.8 percent |
| MEXC | 3,344,065 | 10.8 percent |
| Toobit | 1,932,275 | 6.3 percent |
| Gate | 1,533,645 | 5.0 percent |
| Uniswap V3 (Arbitrum, 3 pairs) | 1,169,093 | 3.8 percent |
| KuCoin | 1,061,082 | 3.4 percent |
| Bitrue | 387,177 | 1.3 percent |
| XT.COM | 252,641 | 0.8 percent |
| WhiteBIT | 204,079 | 0.7 percent |
| GroveX | 79 | below 0.1 percent |
The individual figures add up to $30,902,914 and therefore differ by $78 from the total in the master data set. Rounding differences like this arise because the two figures are collected seconds apart. We do not smooth them out; we cite both values.
Kraken itself no longer appears in any of the 14 order books. That confirms the trading halt of 17 June independently of Kraken's own notice, and it incidentally answers a question those affected tend to ask: on Kraken the balance can no longer be swapped into another currency before it is withdrawn either.
Crypto exchanges regulated in the EU comparedNot a Single Euro Pair: Where RAIN Can Actually Go After Withdrawal
The most striking finding of our count sits in the counter-currency column. Of the 14 trading pairs measured, eleven are denominated in USDT. The remaining three are pairs on the decentralised exchange Uniswap in version 3 on the Arbitrum network and are denominated in token addresses customary there. Not one pair is denominated in euros. None in US dollars as book money either.
In practice that means anyone withdrawing RAIN from Kraken and then wanting to turn it into money cannot avoid an intermediate step via a stablecoin or a decentralised exchange. The direct route into euros you would expect from an asset ranked 13th does not exist according to this measurement. If you assumed you could simply sell the token for euros on an exchange regulated in the EU when the need arose, check that before 15 September rather than after.
This situation is not static either. Venues add pairs and drop them again, and our measurement is a snapshot of a single moment. We explicitly derive no trend from it.
HTX From 23 August: The Largest RAIN Market Disappears for EU Investors
The venue with the highest measured RAIN volume is HTX at $8.27 million over 24 hours, a good quarter of total turnover. That very venue will no longer be available to investors in the European Union six days after this piece appears.
The EU listed HTX as part of its 21st sanctions package against Russia. For individuals and companies from the EU, the EEA and Switzerland a transaction ban applies from 23 August 2026, covering direct and indirect business with the exchange. The measure bans transactions and does not freeze the exchange's own assets. We covered the rule in detail on 15 August in HTX on the EU Sanctions List.
For RAIN holders in Germany this produces a sequence that appears in neither notice, because it arises from two independent processes. On 23 August a good quarter of the measured market breadth falls away for them. Only 23 days later, on 15 September, Kraken closes the withdrawal window. Anyone who also wants to sell the balance after that is working from 23 August with a residual market of roughly $22.6 million in daily turnover instead of $30.9 million.
Whether and to what extent the remaining eleven venues can be used by private investors resident in Germany is something we did not examine. That depends on each provider's authorisation status and on its own terms of business, and neither can be read off market data.
Enlivex and 11.1 Percent of the Circulating Supply: The Largest Known Holder
One circumstance makes the case unusual and at the same time explains why the circulating supply is so large and the free float so hard to gauge. The largest publicly documented RAIN holding sits with a company listed on Nasdaq.
Enlivex Therapeutics Ltd. filed a mandatory disclosure on Form 6-K with the US securities regulator SEC on 20 July 2026. In it the company reports a holding of 79,550,593,122 RAIN worth roughly $1.1 billion as of 18 July 2026. Measured against the circulating supply of 716,584,200,087 tokens we collected, that equals 11.1 percent. The filing sits in the SEC's EDGAR archive.
Little follows from this directly for your own decision, but a fair amount for context. A share of that size on a single balance sheet means the freely tradable quantity is smaller than the circulating figure suggests. How much RAIN sits on Kraken, and how much of it is heading into the forced liquidation, is not public. We claim nothing about it.

Withdraw to Your Own Wallet or to Another Exchange: The Two Routes
There are exactly two destinations for a withdrawal, and the choice between them should be made before the cut-off date, not on the final day.
The first destination is a wallet in your own custody. The advantage is that no further third-party deadline weighs on the balance. The price for it is your own responsibility for the access key and the need to get the network right. RAIN trades on Arbitrum among other places according to our measurement, and a withdrawal into a network the destination address does not support is as a rule not recoverable. Kraken displays the selectable network in the withdrawal dialogue.
The second destination is another exchange where the token can still be traded. The advantage is the immediate ability to sell. The drawback is two additional checks: whether the provider can lawfully be used in Germany, and whether it accepts RAIN deposits at all. A venue that lists a pair does not necessarily keep deposits of the token open.
What Costs Time in Either Case
A withdrawal is rarely a matter of minutes. With a larger amount or a newly registered address, security mechanisms kick in: confirmation emails, waiting periods for newly entered addresses, in individual cases manual checks. Anyone targeting 15 September at 13:59 UTC has no buffer left for a query. Realistically, start the process at least a week beforehand.
Hardware wallets for self-custody comparedTax in Germany: Forced Liquidation Counts as a Disposal
For tax purposes it makes no difference whether you sell yourself or the exchange liquidates the balance. Either way a disposal has taken place. For crypto assets held as private assets, the framework of the private disposal transaction under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act applies: if more than a year passes between acquisition and disposal, a gain remains tax-free; otherwise it is taxable to the extent that the exemption threshold for all private disposal transactions in the year is exceeded.
The practical point lies in the timing. Anyone who has not yet reached the one-year mark can no longer choose the disposal date in a forced liquidation, even though that date decides whether the transaction falls into tax liability. Anyone who has already reached the deadline loses this choice without consequence. Anyone who would reach it in the weeks after 15 September loses it with consequences.
The second practical point is documentation. A forced sale creates an accounting entry whose price you did not set yourself and which is hard to reconstruct later. Anyone affected should secure the account statement and the settlement promptly. This is general context and does not replace tax advice in an individual case.
Limits of This Analysis: What We Could Not Check
Our survey answers part of the questions and explicitly leaves another part open. Four gaps should be named. First, the measurement is a snapshot of a single moment on 17 August 2026. Volumes and prices fluctuate daily, no trend can be derived from it, and we assert none. Second, we queried only one data provider. Venues that provider does not cover do not appear in our count, so the actual number of order books may be higher. Third, we did not check the regulatory status of the twelve venues measured, with the exception of the HTX case, which follows from the EU sanctions situation. Whether a provider can be used by private individuals resident in Germany does not follow from its volume. Fourth, the RAIN balance held on Kraken is not public, so we can say nothing about what quantity would actually run into liquidation on 15 September.
On the origin of the remaining figures: the dates and the quotation come from Kraken's own notice, the Enlivex token holding from the mandatory disclosure filed with the SEC. The assessment of the EU sanction against HTX rests on reporting by several independent trade publications.
How to Check Your Kraken Account Before 15 September
The effort is small, and it is worth it even for those certain they hold no RAIN. Delistings regularly catch balances that came from promotions, conversions or old partial purchases and that nobody has in mind any more.
Look in your account statement under balances to see whether RAIN is listed with a non-zero amount, and check very small residual amounts as well. If something is there, decide on a withdrawal destination and set up the address before you enter the amount. Trigger the withdrawal with time to spare and then check whether the transaction actually arrived on the destination network. If a remainder stays on the account because it falls below a minimum withdrawal threshold, it cannot be moved and runs into the liquidation. That is annoying, though usually bearable with very small amounts.
And while you are at it, check the remaining positions against the running monthly cycles. The June cycle runs out on 25 September, the July cycle on 6 November.
Kraken's RAIN Withdrawal Deadline: What to Take Away
- Check by early September whether RAIN sits in your Kraken account, and move the balance out. Trading there has been closed since 17 June, and withdrawals end on 15 September at 14:00 UTC. If you want to hold it yourself, the device types and their differences are set out in the hardware wallet comparison.
- Establish before withdrawing where you can actually sell the token afterwards. According to our measurement not one of the 14 trading pairs is denominated in euros, and the highest-volume venue drops away for EU investors on 23 August. Which venues come into question for you is best settled in advance through our overview of crypto exchanges.
- Secure the settlement for your tax return once the process is complete. Whether you sell or the exchange liquidates changes nothing about the tax treatment, but it does change the timing. The programs in our overview of crypto tax tools and portfolio trackers handle the record-keeping.
