On 12 April, Craig Wright, Bitcoin SV’s father, sent a lawyer’s letter to Vitalik Buterin threatening him with consequences for not receiving a public apology.
The history
Craig Wright has been posing as bitcoin finder Satoshi Nakamoto since 2016. So far, however, any attempt to prove this has failed, leading to general doubts about the claim. Many crypto-fans labeled Wright as imposter and fraud. Since the beginning of April, Wright, who was also called Faketoshi, did not read the allegations and went on the offensive. With threats and bounty, he tried to silence his critics, which triggered a wave of resentment in the crypto community. In the course of the escalation, his creation, the “Bitcoin Cash Fork” “Bitcoin SV” was delisted by Kraken and Binance.
This did not prevent Wright from continuing to take legal action against his harsh critics. Vitalik Buterin had often referred to him as a scammer publicly and now Wright also demanded an apology from him. Peter McCormarck, Adam Back (Blockstream), Chepicap (blog) and Ethereum World News also received such letter.
If Vitalik does not respond to the letter by April 23 and does not officially withdraw his “slander,” further action will be taken against him and the Ethereum Foundation, the letter said.
Vitalik did not respond
According to a Coingeek report, Vitalik did not respond to the letter. It’s hard to tell if he has read his e-mails. However, he noted that Peter McCormack received one. In the meantime, on April 16, Vitalik Buterin has once again publicly attacked Craig Wright, suggesting that he has not read the letter or that he does not care about it.
What can Vitalik do now?
According to Coingeek, if an indictment follows, he can testify under oath to the High Court that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto. Then Wright has to prove the opposite in court. It is likely that all concerned will team up with Vitalik to save on court costs and increase their efficiency. While some have responded to Wright’s letters, they still have not withdrawn the allegations as required.
