AI Coins Before the 2024 Bitcoin Halving: How Verasity, Fetch.ai, SingularityNET and ICP Fared

In March 2024 these four AI coins were tipped as halving winners. By September 2026 all four had lost 80 to over 90 percent, while Bitcoin rose.

Update 25 September 2026: This article from 29 March 2024 presented four AI coins ahead of the Bitcoin halving on 20 April 2024 and promised far too much. None of the four came close to the hoped-for returns: on 25 September 2026 all of them traded 80 to more than 90 percent below their March 2024 level, while Bitcoin itself was up about 21 percent. We have removed the return promise and the buy buttons and added what actually happened.

In March 2024, AI coins were among the hottest themes in crypto. Some commentators expected these projects to multiply ten to a hundred times by 2025, and the original version of this article picked four of them: Verasity, Fetch.ai, SingularityNET and Internet Computer. Here is what they stood for then and how they fared by September 2026.

AI projects, short for artificial intelligence projects, create and apply technologies that mimic human intelligence: machines that learn, solve problems and make decisions based on algorithms and large amounts of data. In crypto, AI projects look for ways to combine these methods with blockchains and tokens.

The 4 AI Coins From March 2024

1. Verasity (VRA)

Verasity set out to fight ad fraud with an open registry ecosystem that combines AI, machine learning and blockchain technology. With VeraWallet, users could earn, buy, store and stake VRA tokens, which were also used to fund ad campaigns and for payments through VeraPay.

In early 2024, the project reported a strong rise in social contributors, driven by Vera Ads, a product for Web3 publishers.

Where VRA stands in September 2026: the token has lost almost all of its value. CoinGecko listed VRA at around $0.00002 on 25 September 2026, with a total market value of about $5 million. At the end of 2025, the team announced a strategic reorientation with a new product and token under the Verasity brand.

2. Fetch.ai (FET)

Fetch.ai builds an open, decentralized machine learning network with its own token economy. Its autonomous AI agents are meant to handle tasks such as DeFi trading, parking and micromobility or the optimisation of energy grids.

In March 2024, Fetch.ai, SingularityNET and Ocean Protocol announced that they would merge their tokens and form the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, with a combined value of about $7.6 billion at the time.

What happened next: the token merger started on 1 July 2024, with FET as the surviving token. On 9 October 2025, the Ocean Protocol Foundation announced that it was leaving the alliance again. FET closed at about $3.10 on 29 March 2024 and traded near $0.22 on 25 September 2026, a loss of around 93 percent, based on Binance and CoinGecko data.

3. SingularityNET (AGIX)

SingularityNET runs a blockchain-based marketplace where anyone can create, share and sell AI services, paid for with its utility token AGIX. The project focuses on combining structured knowledge, so-called knowledge graphs, with large language models.

What happened next: AGIX no longer exists as a separate market. In the merger from July 2024, every AGIX was converted into 0.43335 FET. AGIX closed at about $1.32 on 29 March 2024; the FET equivalent of one AGIX was worth roughly $0.10 on 25 September 2026, also about 93 percent less.

4. Internet Computer (ICP)

The Internet Computer protocol offers smart contracts that can host data, computation, user interfaces and content fully on-chain. That makes it possible to run social media platforms, enterprise systems, games and, according to the project, AI models directly on the network without intermediaries.

What happened next: ICP closed at about $17.20 on 29 March 2024 and traded near $3.08 on 25 September 2026, a loss of about 82 percent, based on Binance data.

What the 2024 Halving Taught About AI Coins

The Bitcoin halving on 20 April 2024 cut the block reward from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC. Bitcoin went on to set new records in 2025, but the altcoins that had been sold as the big winners of the cycle did not follow. Anyone who had put $1,000 into each of these AI coins in March 2024 would have been left with a fraction of that. The lesson: a strong narrative and a hot sector are no substitute for real usage and a sustainable token economy.
