Trump Media Moves 4,259 Bitcoin: Why 30 November Could Force a Sale
Wallets tied to Trump Media sent 4,259 bitcoin to Crypto.com. A filing from 2 November shows why the timing matters: noteholders can demand up to 1 billion dollars in cash on 30 November, and the company names bitcoin sales as one way to pay.

Wallets linked to Trump Media & Technology Group moved 4,259 bitcoin to Crypto.com early on Thursday, 5 November. At Thursday night's price of 75,869 dollars that is about 323 million dollars. The coins came from addresses labelled "2028 Convertible Notes Collateral", and a filing from 2 November shows why the timing matters: holders of those notes can demand up to 1.0 billion dollars in cash on 30 November, and Trump Media names selling bitcoin as one way to raise it.
The transfer landed in the middle of a broad sell-off. Bitcoin fell to its lowest level in seven weeks, the Nasdaq lost 5.4 percent, and Trump Media's own shares (ticker DJT) dropped 10.5 percent to 4.02 dollars. What did Trump Media do with its bitcoin?
Trump Media sent 4,259 BTC to an address attributed to Crypto.com in two transfers at 02:17 UTC, according to on-chain data from Arkham reported by CoinDesk. The first transfer carried 2,140.03 BTC, the second 2,119.31 BTC. Arkham labels the sending addresses as collateral for the convertible notes due in 2028.
That label matches the company's own numbers. In its second-quarter report, Trump Media said 4,260.73 BTC served as collateral for the notes as of 30 June, and that it could not withdraw or distribute those coins except under the terms of the loan indenture. Thursday's transfer moved almost exactly that amount.
A transfer is not a sale. Trump Media has sent bitcoin to Crypto.com twice before this year and said both times that it did not sell:
- May 2026: about 2,650 BTC, then worth around 205 million dollars. A spokesperson called it part of the company's trading strategy.
- August 2026: 2,628 BTC, about 165 million dollars. The company described it as custody management, reported The Block.
- 5 November 2026: 4,259 BTC, the largest of the three transfers, three and a half weeks before the repurchase date.

Crypto brokers comparedWhy could 30 November force Trump Media to sell bitcoin?
Because the notes give their holders a cash exit on that date. In May 2025, Trump Media issued 0.00% Convertible Senior Secured Notes due 2028 with a principal of 1.0 billion dollars and raised 960 million dollars after a 4 percent discount. According to the company's registration statement filed with the SEC on 2 November, each holder can require Trump Media to buy back all or part of its notes for cash on 30 November 2026, at 100 percent of principal.
If every holder uses that right, Trump Media could have to pay up to about 1.0 billion dollars. The filing names the options: a new credit facility to refinance the notes, other debt or equity financing, or selling its bitcoin or other digital assets. It also says Trump Media does not consider paying in new shares an efficient use of its equity while the stock trades far below the conversion price.
That gap is the heart of the problem. The notes convert at 34.722 dollars per share. DJT closed at 4.02 dollars on Thursday, 88 percent below that level. Here is what a note with 1,000 dollars of principal is worth to its holder on each path:
| Path for the noteholder | Value per 1,000 dollars of principal |
|---|---|
| Convert into DJT shares (28.8 shares at 4.02 dollars) | about 116 dollars |
| Demand cash on 30 November | 1,000 dollars |
For a holder the choice is obvious, which is why the repurchase date is the real deadline for Trump Media's bitcoin treasury, not the 2028 maturity.
How much bitcoin does Trump Media hold?
About 14,139 BTC including the pledged coins, according to the company's most recent figure for 31 July cited by CoinDesk. At 75,869 dollars that is worth about 1.07 billion dollars, roughly the size of the notes. The 4,259 BTC moved on Thursday are worth about 323 million dollars, around a third of what Trump Media would owe if every holder asked for cash.

The filing from 2 November gives no newer holding figure. Every move from the tagged wallets is therefore read as a signal, and the next ones will be watched just as closely.
Regulated crypto exchanges comparedWhat would a Trump Media bitcoin sale mean for the bitcoin price?
On its own, not much. 4,259 BTC equal about 0.7 percent of bitcoin's trading volume over the past 24 hours, which CoinGecko puts at 43.5 billion dollars. Large holders usually sell through custodians and over-the-counter desks in tranches instead of hitting the order book at once.
The bigger effect is on sentiment. Trump Media is one of the best-known bitcoin treasury companies, and a forced sale by the company behind Truth Social would hit a market that is already nervous after the midterm defeat, the tech sell-off and the 6.3 billion dollar Binance hack. Our daily overview of why crypto is down today tracks all of these drivers. How treasury stocks can trade below the value of their coins is explained in our piece on the mNAV discount of bitcoin treasury stocks, and what happened when Sequans sold its last bitcoin shows how such an exit plays out.
What to watch until 30 November
- A refinancing: A new credit facility would take most of the pressure to sell off the table. Trump Media would have to disclose it in an 8-K filing.
- Outflows from Crypto.com: Coins leaving the Crypto.com address for trading venues would be a stronger sign of selling than Thursday's transfer.
- The DJT share price: The further the stock stays below 34.722 dollars, the more likely holders take the cash.
- The TAE merger: The filing from 2 November belongs to Trump Media's planned all-stock merger with fusion company TAE Technologies. Changes to that deal can shift the financing options.
For anyone holding bitcoin through a stock like DJT, the lesson is simple: you carry the company's debt along with its coins. If you want direct exposure without that layer, compare regulated crypto exchanges and keep larger amounts on a device from our hardware wallet comparison, as explained in our guide on how to store crypto safely.
