The Solana Saga Phone, a mobile device backed by Solana and designed to enhance web3 functionality, has recently seen a surge in sales. This increase in demand is largely attributed to an enticing offer: an airdrop of 30 million Bonk tokens, Solana’s dog-themed equivalent to Dogecoin, known as BONK.
A Turnaround Story for Solana Saga Phone
Initially struggling with sales, the Saga phone’s fortunes changed dramatically with the announcement of the BONK token airdrop. This promotion offered 30 million BONK tokens, valued at approximately $700, to each Saga phone owner. This value notably exceeds the phone’s selling price of $599. The result was a rapid increase in sales, leading to the phone selling out in the U.S. market. Solana co-founder Raj Gokal noted that sales had increased more than tenfold in just 48 hours.

The Saga smartphone, released in May 2023, operates on the Android system and boasts impressive features like 512GB memory, dual rear camera lenses, a 6.67-inch OLED display, and a fingerprint scanner. Its standout feature is the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS), a suite of custom add-ons that integrate Web3 functionality into the phone’s hardware and software. This integration is seen as a significant step towards the broader adoption of Web3 on mobile devices and enhancing interaction with the Solana mobile community.
The BONK Phenomenon
The BONK token has experienced remarkable growth, increasing by over 1,000% in the past month and being listed on major crypto exchanges like Binance and Coinbase. Its price rose by 2% to $73.90 at the time of writing. The excitement around BONK has been a key driver in the renewed interest in the Saga phone.
